Film scanning does not use the entire surface of the glass. But it is hard to get 35mm slides perfectly clean, so using Digital Ice is worth the time it takes. It's really not worth the time it takes to use it on prints. It scans a small portion, processes it, scans some more, etc until it's finished. It depends on the speed of your computer, but using Digital Ice on transparencies can make it take two or three times longer to do a scan.
Epson perfection v800 photo color scanner software#
the scan software is easy to use and logically presented. Digital Ice software cleans up dust and scratches automatically, with excellent results. When you click scan, it scans each selected area to a separate file. You can put several prints or transparencies on the glass, do a preview scan, and then outline the parts that you want scanned by holding down Ctrl and dragging the cursor from one corner to the other. It automatically converts negatives to positive images, both color and black & white. scans both photos and transparencies (slides and negatives). Compared to my previous scanner, it's about 10 times faster. It only takes a few seconds to scan a large photo. Above 1200 you don't get much if any improvement in image quality, though. Practically speaking 1200 dpi is the top useful resolution, although you can select up to 4800dpi. There are several sellers of aftermarket non-Epson brand film holders, but I didn't feel they w ere worth the price. It isn't too hard to position the film by hand on the glass. Being a pre-owned scanner, it was missing the film holders. I bought this one to scan historical family photos and slides. It truly is capable of accurate archival quality reproduction. There are also high-end scanners that cost ten times or more than this one costs, but they are aimed at commercial uses that an amateur does not need to do.Ī few years ago I bought one of these for the archives department of an organization I worked for. There are a lot of low-end scanners out there. The Epson Perfection 4992 PHOTO flatbed scanner is an excellent mid-range scanner. Best choice for a mid-range flatbed photo scanner
